Today, Wednesday June 23, 2021, the governorate of Monastir commemorated the tenth anniversary of the death of the late fighter and statesman, Mohamed Mazali, under the tutelage of Mr. Akram Al-Sebri, the governor of Monastir.
The governor read in the presence of the first authorized, Tariq Al-Bakoush, and Wajih Boumeza, the representative of Monastir, Mundhir Marzouk, the mayor of Monastir, in addition to the presence of representatives of civil society and several activists, al Fatiha on the tomb of the late leader Habib Bourguiba in Rawda Al Bourguiba and the tomb of Muhammad Mazali in the cemetery of Imam Mazari, praying for them and for all the combatants and martyrs mercy and forgiveness in recognition of their struggles and their effective contribution to the liberation of our country from brutal colonialism and to the construction of modern Tunisia.
It is reported that Mohamed Mazali was born in the city of Monastir on Wednesday 4 Rabi 'al-Awwal, 1344 AH, corresponding to December 23, 1925, where he continued his primary studies and then moved to Tunis, where he received his studies secondary school in Sadiqia until he obtained his baccalaureate and then left for France to continue his higher education.
At the beginning of the fifties, Mohamed Mazali returned to Tunisia to teach at the Sadiquia school, then joined the structures of the modern national state from the start of independence to occupy several important positions in the state, such as that of be appointed director general of youth. and sports administration in 1959, and in 1964 he was appointed director of the Tunisian Radio and Television Society.
Then, from 1968, he held several ministerial posts, in particular the Ministry of Defense (1968-1969), then of Youth and Sports (1969-1970), and national education three times in a row between 1970 and 1980, interspersed with the Ministry of Public Health between 1973 and 1976, and in 1980 he assumed the first ministry to succeed Al-Hadi Nouira.
Mohamed Mazali also took over the Directorate of Youth and Sports, then the Ministry of Youth and Sports, then chaired the Tunisian National Olympic Committee between 1962 and 1986 and the Tunisian Football Federation between 1962 and 1963. He also served from 1976 to 1980 as Vice President of the International Olympic Committee, of which he was a life member.
Mohamed Mazali died in a Parisian hospital on June 23, 2010 at the age of 85, and was buried on the 25th of the same month in Monastir.
